If the fresh food side of the fridge stops working you are supposed to clear the dust from the condenser coils. When I saw there wasn't much dust I was pretty sure the problem was more serious. Time to look on Yelp! for a reputable repair firm.
Not long after using the "request a quote" button, I had a message on my machine from Rob. Ron? Rom!
As other reviews have noted, Rom responded quickly and squeezed me in even though I live near Summerlin in Vegas.
It's impressive how he manages this. All of his calls have to be the "Help! My fridge is fried!" variety. Yet he swung by before my groceries had a chance to spoil.
Rom dug into the machine's innards and found the freezer coils covered with a thick coating of ice. He replaced the "heater."
Next day, the unit conked out again. Rom rushed over. It was the "board," which he replaced. The machine is back to normal. He even got the ice maker to work again (no charge). I had given the ice maker up for dead.
Rom charged me $400. Whether this is a fair price I have no idea. Rom seems like a good guy. It was reassuring that he said "Call me any time." One good sign: His nifty shop vehicle looks way better than typical repair vans. To me it shows pride in his operation.
Watch his video. It's no bull! Unlike his theme song (The Good, the Bad and The Ugly), it's all good!
We are at the mercy of repair people. We want the problem fixed so we can move on. Most of us don't take bids. They can pretty much charge anything. All we can do is hope we're dealing with someone who has integrity.
