4 stars because of the very friendly and helpful service.
I used to travel to Hawaii a lot back in the day to visit my friends who were from there (Iolani vs Punahou forevah!). And by 'Hawaii', I don't mean Waikiki Beach. But since they all eventually moved here to the mainland, I haven't been back in a while. I just don't remember Hawaiian food being anything like this at all. Maybe things have changed. Anyways...
I kind of doubt that authenticity is the objective here. As many people stated, it's a Qdoba/Chipotle concept place with the Hawaiian theme. There are lots of interesting items you can build, such as a burrito, a bowl, and a salad using the basic proteins that they have. You then add on the extras as shown on the menu. No need to rehash what everyone else wrote. The server will guide you step by step. They also have a wide variety of sauces that you can use which I don't feel is necessary, because it seems to mask the taste of the food to me. Overall I thought the meal was quite good, including the coconut bark dessert of which you can ask for a free sample.
The service was over the top. They will offer you samples of all the meats and they will even offer you samples of sauces if this is your first visit. They will also insist that you try a sample of the coconut bark dessert and I got a coupon for a free 1/4 lb box of coconut bark with my next meal purchase. I make a big deal about service and even if the food may be just ok to some, this place deserves at least 4 stars.
