I've been here twice now - the first time was dinner with some of the top food reviewers in Phoenix (RIP Urbanspoon). The second time was a birthday dinner with my mom. This place is one of those "unexpected gems" you hear about. It's not located in some vibrant area and the building itself doesn't look like much. Yet when you step inside, it is full of life and always packed with people. Great food and word of mouth made this place popular. The Original Blue Adobe Grill uses flavorful spices and pecan wood-fired grilling to create its signature authentic New Mexican dishes. Some highlights are the carne adovada, shrimp enchiladas, lazy tacos, stacked enchiladas, and the spooning beef tenderloin rellenos. The carne adovado has been dubbed one of the 500 things to eat before you die in a popular book. I grew up in AZ and had to order the old family recipe cheese crisp. Every time we went out for Mexican food as a family growing up, we ordered one of these. The carne adovado didn't disappoint. It was tender and flavorful and I recommend getting it Christmas style (a pairing of Hatch Red and Green Chili sauces). I also highly recommend making a reservation as the wait can be a little long getting a table.
