| - Goldstrike Hot Springs is a one-of-a-kind hike!!! ...it's definitely like striking gold! So here are a few DOs & DON'Ts that u WILL NEED to know before hitting this trail:
DO pack enough snacks packed with protein and carbs... u'll need energy for this STRENUOUS hike!
DO pack plenty of water/fluid with ELECTROLYTES... this trail will make u sweat!
DON'T forget to check the weather condition before hiking this trail... it IS hot out there!
DON'T hike alone... there's no cell reception so contacting for emergency help ain't easy.
DON'T forget to notify others that u will be hiking this trail and when u r expecting to return... anything can happen. Yes, back in 2003, two men have died of heatstroke while on this trail. So please, DON'T take this info lightly.
DO consider hiking early... the earlier, the cooler, the better. This hike takes about 4.5 hours or longer if u go all the way to the Colorado River. Plan accordingly.
DON'T hike this trail at noon... the sun's heat typically peaks between 10am to 4pm. Stay well hydrated with water & electrolytes. DO bring salt packets. DON'T forget sunscreen!
Lastly, DO pack plenty of water/fluid with ELECTROLYTES... I cannot stress how important this fact is. There is a purpose for me stating this twice. The last thing u want is to run out of water!
Now that the hiking essentials are out of the way... Getting to the trailhead might be a bit confusing... at least it was for me so I hope u can follow this:
***Take the US-93 S towards Boulder City... and take the Nevada 172 Hoover Dam EXIT 2. From here... if u make a left, u'll be going towards Hoover Dam, DON'T go that way! DO make a quick RIGHT turn, then hang a quick LEFT onto the unpaved road. Not too far down this paved road, u will see a "Goldstrike Canyon" sign on your left hand side. DO drive to the end of the dirt road... and PARK here. This is a popular trail, so u might see other cars parked here too.***
The hike itself is quite FUN and CHALLENGING!!! There are a few hot spring pools, several rope obstacles, and many arrows to help guide ur hike. The trail is pretty apparent... DO remember to look back from time to time so u can recognize the returning trail... DON'T forget to follow the arrows!!! There is ONLY ONE WAY IN & ONE WAY OUT... so pack plenty of water!
After parking ur car, this is ur first landmark! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw
Next, this boulder signifies the beginning or close to the end of the trail. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#piFKNM84r1VMZa3jS4C9fg

DO be aware of the 30 ft. drop! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#gsKFbwUDvwxtDUskDpTgoA
DO look for the arrows! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#bhdOtbB8NRMYztVb3BkFSw
First obstacle... the "stairs." Note: The arrow says this way, but trail is slippery! The first two steps are tricky, so DO be careful! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#3RiZJsz9e4Aab2fJj3ux_g
This is what the "stairs" look like after coming down them... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#5enVkvyqguudqnQRkAcThQ
Second obstacle... climbing down this rope. It's easy, but be sure to use BOTH hands and TRUST the rope! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#P5nEV1m6AvfeC0Jx8MSCrw
Not too far from here... u will meet a few of the hot pools. These pools are quite deep! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#QVxWriEZTbl6KJgqgA66FA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#CVkaVB4v1aGeNC7Y9TkjuQ
Third obstacle... this rope leads u down to the Cave of Wonders. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#OO5O1CD1DWjAFEXi9S3gtQ There are two hot springs here... one warm pool http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#XWpFH9XCI7gdzMCPuN7yaA & one hot pool! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RF7-W3Dc2B3FXW07Y-ZOVw?select=2D9p1_SUaOZIjQrORjnXEw#eHcgK5bqDKt1bqSxdwTBVw
After these pools, the trail goes further down... to the Nevada Hot Springs, where there is a warm waterfall, and goes all the way to the Colorado River (add'l 30-40 mins, each way).
Note: DON'T submerge ur head into the springs... there are NO warning signs about the Naegleria Fowleri amoeba, but it is DEADLY. Here are the facts according to the CDC about the Naegleria Fowleri. http://www.cdc.gov/parasites/naegleria/faqs.html
Use good judgment. Not only KNOW YOUR OWN LIMITS... but KNOW YOUR HIKING PARTNER'S LIMITS too! Have FUN!
