| - Ok. This will be one long winded review ;-) I just saw so many things that I'll write about them on this single review --and will do individual ones where I see appropriate, I guess.
This was the first time I went to Vegas --and I've been around Earth for 4 decades now ;-) My parents had been several times throughout their marriage and every single time they came back they told me about all the marvels there. I was always curious. But if it was not one thing that prevented me from going, it was another. And I finally made it there.
I was in Vegas for 5 days --I was there for a conference. The size of these Hotels/Casinos blew me away! I could not believe these places were so freaking BIG! Everything is overwhelmingly sumptuous, and lit, and crowded and noisy, not in a bad way, but in a way that I had never experienced before.
Walking along The Strip (believe me, I walked like cars did not exist!) was an experience. The smell of pot is overpowering on the street. The smell of cigars as well. In general terms, everything is clean and very well taken care of. Dressed-up people everywhere: Vegas dancers, female cops, super heroes, cartoon characters, all asking for money so you can take a picture with them. The slappers promoting girl services, the guys offering discounted tickets to night clubs and events, people drinking on the street, homeless people here and there. Everything everywhere.
In my view, there are 2 types of Vegas: the olden days Vegas (with Casinos and Hotels like Tropicana, Harrah's, Excalibur, New York, Treasure Island, Circus Circus... which look, from the outside, like they're frozen in time). And the new Vegas (with the Bellagio, Aria (oh, the Aria!), Cosmopolitan, the Linq... which are the epitome of cool and modern. And somewhere in between, you can see the Luxor, Caesars Palace, The Mirage).
Buffet food is good, but expensive ($50 buffet, anyone?). Drinks are too ($14 for a glass of Malbec?!). Outside it's just the usual: chain restaurants that you'd find anywhere in America, Starbucks, chain bars like Fat Tuesday where you can get sugary cocktail drinks at an accessible price... Also, I'm not a gambler, so I cannot tell about that.
I did 2 events: Absinthe at the Caesars Palace and Styx and Don Felder at the Venetian. Both were absolutely amazeballs! Need to bring more money and spend more time on shows next time I'm here.
Would I come back? Absolutely. Did it change my life? In a way it did.
