  • Air Canada & Health Canada don't care if your baby is born with the Zika Virus I'm extremely disappointed with Air Canada and its service with handling travellers trying to avoid the high risk Zika virus. As an international travel provider, I thought it would be obvious for them after the Ebola outbreak to not take chances with another virus that can potentially be brought back to Canada and can be transmitted through intercourse as well. I'm aware it is not transmitted from Human to Human on contact (But how long does it take for viruses to evolve if we do not control the outbreak?). I'm currently trying to get my common-law pregnant and I cannot as "some" doctors have mentioned that it is unsafe to have a child for two years. After this morning I was extremely worried about my trip to Panama in March. So I decided to call them to possibly try to change the location or even get a full refund. I was told by the service number that I should get a doctors note and I will be refunded by the Air Canada Health department. I got the doctors note for $25 but the helpline that they gave me said that is not possible, it is only a courtesy / goodwill extended to pregnant women or women trying to get pregnant and they must be on the trip. This is not the case for my trip as I will be traveling alone. The virus when I return to Canada can possibly infect my common law because men usually don't show symptoms and I assume I will be one of them as I'm very health conscience and exercise on a daily basis. Once I told the Air Canada Health agent that I had already spent $25 and they're going to charge me another $200 to give me a refund. I'm already quite behind and that is not a short sum of money. To get me off their back they told me to call Health Canada as it's all their fault that they haven't said that the Zika virus is very dangerous that they need to change all plans for people traveling to that country. In other words Air Canada essentially told me not enough people have been infected with in Canada for them to take that gamble. So they would essentially take the gamble with our health and possibly future Canadians. I personally would like to have a healthy baby. Air Canada clearly does not care. As a Canadian trying to make my budget work it is a huge hurdle. If I'm charged this sum I will not have enough money for the trip. Thus, I will have to cancel it all together and not take a vacation this year. It's upsetting how the mighty dollar dictates how our health is handled by corporations and our government. Thank you Air Canada for bringing me to the realization that you obviously do not share the Canadian Values and my loyalty should be awarded to businesses that care and want to protect my interests as well.
