  • Skip the middle and read the first and last of my review. Sorry for the windiness. I hesitate giving this place a review because, even after 100 years, it's still a great little secret. After the renovations a few years back the wife and I decided to stay here. We travel to LV fairly frequently (mostly for work) and like to stay at different places. Having played BJ here on many occasions, and sitting at the bar to watch our sports and have an adult beverage whilst playing the machines... OK, back to the review - who really cares what we do for fun... We booked a Queen room. The room was very clean and quaint. However it was so flippin small it was laughable. For the first time ever we went back to the front desk to tell them they gave us the wrong room. They stressed that it was a queen room. The room was only as wide as the bed plus about 2 1/2 feet, no joke. Long and comfortable, but really small. I'm 6'3 200 and the wife is 5'11" 130, so we're not fatties. It was an interesting sleeping experience. Fast forward a few months. Having seen the "Suites" on youtube, I took a chance and booked it. If you book in advance enough, the price is reasonable. The suite was butterlicious. Very comfortable, huge tv, large 3 person (not that I know first hand) shower and very spacious. An Amazing value. And since this hotel only has 106 rooms, check in is a breeze. I've stayed at Golden Nugget, The D (old Fitzgerald's), Four Queens (wow, way bad), and Gold Spike (which was remarkably decent - old but decent). I truly won't stay anywhere else but at the Golden Gate when I'm downtown. I could go on, but do yourself a favor and check the suites out. Again, book in advance as costs go up the closer you get to your date. I have not checked out the presidential suite yet (although they offered showing it). It goes for $500 to $1,000 a night. And remember, I'm a cheap bastard. Oh, and finally - VALET your car. The dudes are super cool always. I slip em a fiver and they are most gracious (of course a cute wife helps too!) Cheers
