| - I've lived here for almost three years so I can attest to the living conditions fully. First off, I've never had a problem with anyone in the front office. They are all very friendly, as is most of the maintenance personnel I've dealt with (the exception being one who caught an attitude with me.) The amount I pay is reasonable. I have a studio and am gone a lot for work, so it works for me. Maintenance fixes problems relatively quickly as well. I'm also lucky that most of my neighbors are friendly, although there are some sketchy people living in some of the apartments. I've had a bookbag stolen that I left out for an hour in broad daylight, and my neighbor has had her clothes stolen from the laundry room. More on the laundry room in a moment.
The area is decent, located between the midtown central corridor, and the Biltmore area, but the adjacent area is car dealerships and a strip club--next door.
Here's what I have a problem with:
1.) My rent goes up, every year, between $20 and $50.
2.) The laundry rooms are a joke. The machines never work, and if you are lucky enough to find a machine that works, people leave their clothes in, go on vacation, then come back and retrieve said clothes. I've called time and time again and complained that the machines are always broken, and I get either "oh? Really?" or assurance that they will be fixed soon. That was over a year ago. They are still broken. I'm doing laundry now. Only three machines are currently working. Three. And this is normal. My rent goes up every year yet they can't fix a washing machine. I'm trying my best not to cuss too.
3.) There is no pride in the maintenance work. Every time maintenance moves something to fix something, they never move said items back. I recently got a new thermostat. Rather than paint the white paint that's underneath where the old, bigger thermostat was, they just left it. So now I have an ugly white splotch around my thermostat over a brown accent wall. They also left the old gunk on my sink after they replaced the faucet. It took them four tries to fix a leaky air conditioner. They replaced a broken knob on my bathroom sink with another broken knob. I could go on and on.
4.) The water is always out. Sometimes without notice. Twice they locked the laundry room to do repairs, while I was doing laundry, and went home for the day. I'll repeat that. They locked my clothes in the laundry room then went home. If there wasn't someone in the front office (I caught her right before she went home too) I would have been screwed. I was going on vacation in a few hours and they would have had to pay for a new laundry room window.
5.) The "maintenance emergency line" is unattended. I'll repeat that too. The maintenance EMERGENCY line is unattended. Meaning if your pipes burst in the middle of the night, you're SOL. My neighbor's front door lock quit working once, so he called this line, because it was after hours. No response as expected. If WD40 hadn't done the trick, my neighbor would have been unable to go to work. That, or Camelback Cove would have had to pay for a new window.
For what I do, Camelback Cove works for me. The proximity to where I work, the rental price, and the proximity to lots of restaurants is a plus as well. There just needs to be more pride with the little things.
