  • Kinetico installed our R-O system (kitchen) about 13 years ago. Every six months we endured very high cost filters and were often pressed to sanitize our system. Every time they came out it was sell-sell-sell on the part of the service personnel. Finally, in frustration, we opted to order filters via UPS from them and install them ourselves. And, even this did not work...they still tried to sell-sell-sell via the phone! We switched to the Sedona, AZ Kinetico office, who was much nicer and also less costly for the filer-by-mail orders. However, the bad taste (pun) still stuck with us. Doing some research recently I learned that, in fact, the storage tank should have been completely replaced more than 8 years ago, and also that it is essential that you either remove and bypass your fridge filter...or, change it even though you are supplying clean water to the fridge ice-maker and water dispenser. Kinetico never bothered to up-sell us on this, which frankly meant our water was not the best. I ran across a small company in Sun Valley, CA called Fresh Water. We also have a home near that area. Not only was a completely new system less than $200, but it has 5 filters with a final mineral replenishment cartridge. All new and what is even better: The entire filter pack (5 plus the mineral cartridge) is about the same as the 3 old filters that Kinetico sold us for all those years. Never once did Kinetico suggest a new unit or mineral cartridge, yet now I find that the aging system we had was not only old technology, but it should have had a new tank and never addressed the fridge filter issue. Frankly, it was digesting to always hear from this reported "expert" company that we should get sanitizing service and more frequent service, yet the real issue was an old tank, old technology and an ignored ice-maker and water dispenser at the fridge. I will stop short of calling Kinetico a scam company, but it comes close. A better description is a company that charges a heck of a lot (both for the R-O system and install, and replacement filters) but fails miserably at making sure its customers get the best possible R-O and filtration. There seems to be an air of arrogance that they are best, when in fact I now know that for at least the past half decade we were using marginal water and a system that was behind the times. My final advice: Be very cautious about this company. From experience we know they do not have the customer's best interest in mind.
