I have been to Garde Manger several times and it does not disappoint. It is located in Old Montreal. The restaurant does not have a sign so you will need to know where you are going.
The restaurant is dimly lit and intimate. The exposed brick walls adds character to the place - gives the restaurant a trendy vibe.
The food is delicious and is worthy of the hype. There are a few standouts. I would recommend starting a caesar (which comes with) and some oysters. The oysters were expertly shucked, meaty and fresh.
For the mains, we enjoyed the signature lobster poutine, the pasta and duck. The lobster poutine consists of french fries, lobster meat, cheese curds, and lobster bisque reduced until it takes on a gravy-like consistency. The lobster poutine is a must. There is a reason why it is a signature dish. I would recommend getting a the small size as it is really filling. The pasta with rabbit meat was delicious. The duck was flavourful and cooked medium rare.
Garde Manger and Chef Chuck Hughes are Montreal institutions. I highly recommend Garde Manger.
