Have stayed here several times while in Phoenix on business, but this last time - is the last time. It's a pretty marginal motel, but affordable and close to where we need to be, so we just dealt with it.
This time we called ahead to make reservations and was quoted a price per night. They told us there was an event going on, and that they would likely sell out shortly. Thank you. We booked a room and arrived that afternoon.
There was a person ahead of us at check in, and the clerk was unbelievably slow. The person ahead of us was becoming frustrated, and it took about 15 minutes for us to get up to the desk. The clerk gave us the price for the night - which was more than they quoted on the phone. Plus a $10 pet fee per night - per pet. None of that was disclosed when we called, and we clearly indicated we had the same 2 well-behaved pets we had there before. Given that we have stayed here before without any issues, we found this to be an exception to be paying $90 per night for the same room because NASCAR was in town.
We understand supply and demand, and why the hospitality industry considers it acceptable to jack prices when everybody is looking for a place to stay. It's NOT acceptable to change your policies and prices between phone reservations and arrival time.
