| - I'm really sad to write this review. Both my fiancé and I love Delux, but after our last dining experience there, I don't think we will return.
We stopped in late on a Sunday afternoon for lunch- around 3:30PM. We were both starving, borderline hangry starving, and a burger and fries from Delux sounded delicious! We took a seat at the bar and were greeted promptly, although the bartender seemed slightly annoyed to have guests. We placed our drink and food orders quickly, and sipped on our drinks while we waited.
I am sure most people know, and understand, the feeling of being STARVING. Any movement at the food window prompts a glance- and a prayer- for your food. We watched ours get put in the window about 10 minutes after our order was placed. We also watched 3 servers and the manager look at the ticket and our food, and then walk away. We were tempted to grab the food ourselves, but as a former server, I cringed at the thought of doing so. By the way, the bartender was nowhere to be seen, and hadn't been present since he delivered our drinks.
After about 3-4 minutes later, the manager finally picked up and delivered our food. This may have been prompted by my fiancé loudly commenting on how hungry he was, since she (manager) and a female server were standing inches away just chatting about life and enjoying a lovely Sunday afternoon. I am not saying my fiancé was right (I shushed him), but it got the job done. Food was delivered and of course the fries were cold. Burger was nothing special- I would have had a better burger at In-N-Out for 1/3 the price.
Overall, food was gross and not worth the price. I left over half of my burger, which in itself is an accomplishment. I love a good burger! And on another note, which had nothing to do with the food, there were two other things that occurred during our visit that left such a bad taste in our mouths. First, there was an unpleasant odor that permeated the restaurant. I personally thought it smelled slightly of dirty cat litter, fiancé said he didn't notice. Second, the friendliness and professionalism of the staff left a lot to be desired. Our bartender- a male- was unfriendly and present maybe 10% of the meal. Maybe. The female manager was in hippie fringe booties with a long sleeveless dress and her waist length hair untied. I was a server in Arizona for over 10 years, and I still work in the food service industry. From what I can recall, both are health code violations in a restaurant, and they just added a negative element to the experience. While she has lovely hair, when they are waving around my food nilly willy, it is gross. Additionally, the other 3 female staff members on shift seemed more concerned about gossiping and wandering around than actually caring for guests. Having shitty food isn't always a deal breaker, but professionalism and environment can truly make- or break- a meal. Perhaps of the staff had been more attentive to our meal, our burgers and fries wouldn't have been cold. Perhaps if the bartender had reappeared from wherever he was hiding, we would have had the chance to tell him how bad our food was, rather than leave this review. Perhaps if the manager was less interested in gossiping with her staff than ensuring her guests had a quality meal- and experience- we would remain loyal guests of Delux.
