  • I did not grow up with Liberace, but when my mom came to town, I decided she would probably enjoy it because one of her all time favorite stories to tell is about the time she sat on the stage with Liberace and got to kiss his rings. Boy, does my mom have stories. I found a coupon, which I think is easy to do with some crafty Google searches, and I decided to go on a day where we could see "Liberace and Me," starring Philip Fortenberry. That happens every Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday at 1:00 PM. UH-maz-ing! The tour guide was informative and passionate, and it was an educational experience just being with a group of people who all had such strong feelings for Liberace. He is such an icon, so unique, and a real inspiration. The museum displays his cars, pianos, furnishings, and most importantly: his costumes! I now can't wait for the Soderbergh movie starring Michael Douglas as Liberace to be released. The "Liberace and Me" show is probably pound-for-pound the best entertainment dollar I have spent in Las Vegas in terms of shows. He is the music director/pianist for Jersey Boys, and he delivered an amazing performance that had me in tears. You can go and see him at the museum for $18. It is a small, intimate space, and it is just him and the mirrored piano. Stunning. I also love that Liberace is a Las Vegas institution, so you are experiencing vintage Vegas by learning about him. He was really the first celebrity to have a big show, and the rumor is he taught Elvis everything he knew about rhinestones. There is a free shuttle from the strip. I can't wait for someone else to come to town so that I can have an excuse to go there again.
