I seem to be in a similar situation to Laura L. 3 years ago we moved out of our home and put it up for rent. We continued to pay the disposal fees because we were concerned about a lien on our property should the renter decide not to pay. As of Oct. 2017 we sold the home. The bill came, but our escrow paperwork had already been signed and was waiting to be recorded. I figured the new owner would be required to pay for disposal services for this billing period and so I didn't pay. Now they keep sending me notices for payment. I called and spoke with an extremely unhelpful customer service agent who told me that they could not cancel service until I could produce a final bill from NV Energy. I called NV Energy, but because I had not had active service at that address (because the renter was paying his own electric bill) for 3 years, I don't have a final bill that is current at that address. NV Energy was VERY helpful and told me that Republic Services was supposed to contact them to get confirmation of utility shut off, and that I was not entitled to the document because the final bill was for the guy that rented our home--not us! According to NV Energy there is a process in place for Republic to contact them for this information, but they don't do it! I faxed all the deeds of sale (even the escrow form showing that I didn't owe Republic Services any money at the time of escrow close) along with an explanation, but still have received another bill with late fee! What a broken process! I've faithfully paid this bill for 13 years and this is the treatment I get?! Ridiculous!
**ETA(1 star changed to 4): After this post, Republic Services reached out to me to resolve this issue. The late fees were removed and the bill was reduced to reflect the fact that we had sold the property. Whew! Thank goodness...
