| - So, here goes.
I got a cut here previously with Andrea which I really enjoyed. It was pricy, but well done. My previous 5/5 review reflected this.
I decided to get my fiancee a gift of a cut and colour as she has had her heart set for some time on a midnight blue-black hair colour. I wanted her to have a good experience, and thought that I was being wise when I suggested salon Adikt. Based on my previous good experience with them, the last thing I expected was what followed.
I called and explained very specifically what she was looking for; a midnight blue-black cut and colour. We even talked about the subtlety she was seeking. Black by night, bluish by day. The man I spoke with assured me that they would be able to do this. He estimated that it would be about 170$ complete, but that Andrea would call a few days before the appointment to confirm. For payment, I asked that they call me after the work so I could pay by credit card. I was assured this wouldn't be a problem, and ended the conversation confident that everything was in order.
Andrea never called, until my girlfriend was actually there prepping for the cut. I was out running, literally, and didn't have my wallet in hand, so I asked if I could call back in about 15 minutes. This is when things started to take a real downturn. Andrea took a condescending tone, one step short of being directly insulting as she implied that I couldn't be trusted to call back to pay. It was clearly insinuated that they wouldn't even start until I paid, because my fiancee might run out after the work. When I questioned this (I'd never paid before a cut in my life?) -- she quickly back-tracked. She even stepped so far as to say that she supposed my fiancee didn't really seem like the sort to steal a cut. Really? Then why imply it?
After this part of the conversation, she gives me a price 60$ greater than the gentleman had indicated earlier. Not such a big deal, but kind of shady to only let me know after my fiancee is already there getting ready. This said, it wasn't as shady as what happened later with the work itself.
Andrea agrees to begin working on my promise of calling back to pay as soon as I have my wallet on me. I call back shortly after, where I receive blatant condescension peppered with attitude that my card isn't going to pass. The woman taking the charge acts surprised that it went through.
Now.. about the cut itself. All of this could be forgiven and forgotten if the work was properly done. My fiancee so specifically wanted blue-black dye. It's what she's been wanting for months. It was discussed in detail, and I was assured after discussion that they could and would do this. That they would be ready with the materials. Only after they washed her hair and had her in the seat, was she was informed that they "don't do that sort of dye at Aveda". At this point I've paid for a service that they're now saying they're unable to deliver. Straight up, blatant deception.
So, salon Adikt can't do what she went there specifically to have done. Feeling obligated by situation and the fact that it was a gift in motion, they talked her into something completely different. A couple of ratty red highlights, that she was unhappy with and which in my uneducated opinion looked terrible.
She left with a haircut and color that she didn't want. Even as it was being done, she reiterated that it wasn't what she wanted. When it was done, she said she didn't like it. The responses through all of this were that what she wanted done was just a bad idea, and that this was really for her own good.
To summarize:
1) Flat out lied about their ability to deliver a specific service until after it was pre-paid for, and the seat was warm.
2) Misquoted by 60$, failed to call to confirm price as was promised. Only called to inform of price increase after it wasn't possible to decline. This isn't really the end of the world, or blatant.. mostly just annoying. I'm sure it seems worse compounded with everything else.
3) Did not listen through the process. When they were told that she was unhappy, she was informed that they knew better than she did. They delivered a couple of highlights, but charged for complete colour work.
4) Fell one word short of calling us thieves. Implied that it was surprising my credit card went through.
There are those of you reading this carrying the thought that we must have given them a certain vibe to get this treatment. I assure you, we're well accustomed, plateau-living professionals. We may not spend hundreds of dollars on haircuts every day, but there was no reason to justify this treatment and misrepresentation of service.
We found another salon the next day which quickly delivered what she was looking for without a single issue. Montreal really has too many happier places teeming with talented stylists to keep this one on your list.
Avoid.
