| - Well, here we go... our first visit about a year ago was good. The female doctor that was there did surgery on our dog. Loved her. They ended up talking us into buying a monthly plan for him as well... about $50 per month for services for 12 months ($600) on top of our $2,000 surgery bill.
Fast forward to a few months ago (April) when we took him in when he was sick with a suspected UTI. Different doctor who says he has a bad UTI and, according to what he saw on the UA, could be bladder cancer. He strongly suggested we get (a lot) of testing done... $530 of it to be exact. I declined at first, but after some assurance that he needed this and we would not only know if there was cancer, but what type, and how aggressive it was, we accepted. The monthly plan paid only for the actual office visit, so not much. A few days later, the results came back inconclusive. I was upset, as this wasn't what doc said it would tell us. I asked if we could send it in again. He said come back and they would do it and not charge. I came back a few weeks later and they did another UA. They didn't send it back in to the pathologist, just looked at it. Doc said he was "95% sure it was bladder cancer" and suggested we do an ultrasound which ran about $600-$800 or surgery ($1500-$2000). I didn't want to do either... my dog is old and has been through several surgeries already. They told me to put him on a daily anti-inflammatory until he passes.
I waited until July/August and asked that this time they send in a UA again to the pathologist to try to get better answers, as my dog has been acting fine and I am concerned he may have been misdiagnosed. They did the UA and sent it back to the pathologist. The UA came back normal. Hmmm... I asked the doctor how this could be. Doc was mad/offended, saying that "I didn't believe him". Well, duh...
A week later I took my dog to another vet who did a thorough examination, including an ultrasound of his bladder. Well, turns out there is no bladder cancer and she ruled it out. Now, there is a possibility that it could be something else... but the moral of the story is I wasted $530 with a vet who was wrong... and had I listened to their advice, I would've spent another $600-$800 on a service that cost me $100 at the other vet... AND possibly another $1500-$2000 for an unecessary surgery.
I get it... medicine is not an exact science. But come on... don't give assurance when it's not warranted. I voiced my discontent with what was promised to me and asked for a call back after the last UA. I spoke to the receptionist several times before the doctor (who clearly was upset because I questioned his judgment) called me back. The owner NEVER called me (awesome customer service) and I got so mad I disputed the credit card charge. It was funny because the day I disputed it, I got a call from the receptionist right away. Still, no call from the owner. But she had the time to write a letter to the credit card company saying she immediately called and spoke to me (not really), but couldn't call me. Nice.
If you want to a) waste a bunch of money, b) go through crappy communication, and c) go on an emotional roller coaster thinking your dog is going to die... then I recommend coming to them. There are a ton of vets in this city, so look elsewhere. I will never return nor recommend anyone going there.
