rev:text	Last week I had my first hair cut at the Whitehouse Salon. I have very fine, short hair. The previous cut had completely grown out, so the stylist, Jason, had nothing to go on except for a picture that I had with me. I have had experiences in the past where I have taken in this photo, and the stylist has either not been able to copy it, or (in most cases) has made no effort to listen to what I wanted. I am always a bit nervous the first time I try a new salon. I moved here not long ago, and I don't know many people yet. That means that I really didn't have anyone to consult. I based my decision to go to the Whitehouse on the comments from this website, Yelp.com. I can be a bit suspicious of these sites. I always think that salons, restaurants and even doctors "plant" good reviews when they are trying to conceal incompetence. Fortunately, this was not the case at Whitehouse. Unlike the huge, chaotic salons, the Whitehouse is an oasis of tranquility. At the "hip" salons, I have been made to feel like I am taking up the time of a stylist who would rather be working with someone who has gorgeous, thick hair and a runway model's fashion sense. The Whitehouse is a small, inviting shop with none of the pretentiousness I have felt at the big salons. I got outstanding attention, not only from Jason, but from the owner as well. Jason took an incredible amount of time with me, making sure I was comfortable with each phase of the cut. Short, fine hair can be really tough to cut. Getting it to look as though it has volume takes an expert stylist, exactly what I found in Jason.
