This McDonalds is one of the few chain fast food places in the sleepy town of Fountain Hills and as such is located on the main highway entering town. Generally it is a typical location, no special architecture (unfortunately, which is out of character for this town). Being one of the only chain restaurants in town it is a busy place with a very high percentage of snowbirds in winter months.
As a local today was the first time I ever ate there and at mid-afternoon I was surprised how busy it was because of all the tourists. My overall opinion is that like all fast food chains it's pretty much a waste of time reviewing them because the menu is identical in every McDonalds location, as is the décor, the service, the prices and everything else that anyone would include in a review.
But I did take the time to write this to explain why I won't be back. When my order was ready one of the employees placed it on the counter and called my number. The top of the cardboard box that the burger was in was wide open, apparently the person at the prep table didn't close it. The front counter clerk used her ungloved finger (the one that had been handling cleaning supplies and money during the heavy flu season) to reach inside the box and jam the burger back in and tried to close the lid. The lid wouldn't close so she just left it open and served it to me.
That's just unacceptable and probably a serious food safety violation.
She touched my food with her bare hands and expected me to eat it. That grossed me out and next time I'm driving by this McDonalds I think I'll just keep driving.
One more thing ... for such a busy location I was surprised that the hamburger bun was hard, dry and stale. I would think busy locations would have the freshest food but I guess I'm wrong. Maybe like my burger box they just leave all their food storage boxes open and exposed to the air?
