I agreed to meet my mom and stepdad for dinner in Las Vegas on their way back from Southern Utah. My stepdad has "special food needs" (picky + allergies) so my mom suggested Japanese. Trust Yelp recommended Shuseki. Lo and behold it was in the same strip mall with one of our Vegas staples, Penang.
Shuseki's menu had an eclectic mix of Japanese and Korean dishes. My mom and stepdad ordered a variety of small dishes, including several grilled squid, spinach, a rice ball, and a broiled salmon dish my Issei mother found on the untranslated specials. My boyfriend and I stuck to comfort food and ordered shoyu ramen, tonkatsu curry, and croquettes. My ramen was decent though the noodles were slightly overdone. It was traditional style with bamboo shoots and pork. The croquettes were perfect on the outside but bland in the center. The curry was a tad sweeter than I prefer. I didn't try the robata dishes although they looked tasty. I have yet to find truly stellar Asian food in Las Vegas, but for this town Shuseki is above average.
