  • Finally - Target is here. I thought I would head down last night to check out how our stores here in Canada turned out, and to check out prices and selection. I was impressed. They have taken the old Zellers stores and completely renovated them to reflect the Target Brand. Big, bright aisles - nicely organized shelves and cheerful staff. The selection here is similar to what you find at a Walmart Superstore - but everything about Target just seems a notch up. The signage, displays, branding and product packaging for Target products is nicer. I think that most people would agree that although Target is still a mass market retailer - it is the sum of all the parts, some obvious, some not, that make the Target shopping experience more pleasant. One thing I enjoyed was the automated cart "scalator" :) I was able to put my funky plastic cart into the track beside the escalator and have it carried to the lower level. Very handy. I liked the self check out machines, a kind I have only seen in the US stores - slicker interface. In particular, the grocery aisle has some really good stuff. Products and food stuffs only seen in the USA. The Target brand of food products is also very good. Last night I bought a container of Caramel Toffee Scones. Jeez they were delicious. Only downside - at this location, there is no street entrance to Target, so if you are getting groceries, be prepared to lug them through the mall. Other locations ( Market Mall) have the external entrance, which will be good. Many of us have waited for Target - and it has been worth the wait.
