| - We sent them the specs of what we wanted three days before our appointment, as well as an agreed upon price, via the USAA (military's insurance) program. This should have been an easy in and out transaction. Instead, three hours later, we had experienced the following shenanigans:
1. We sat there for an hour and a half while they conducted multiple searches through their system, looking for the car we wanted. Why didn't they do that BEFORE we showed up?
2. They knew they didn't have what we wanted in stock so they kept trying to get us to buy something other than what we sent them. We were not interested in compromising but we were fully willing to wait eight weeks while they ordered one from the factory.
3. They finally found exactly the right car in stock (they said). We were ready to do the paperwork when my wife noticed that the printout was for a 2014 model. We were clear from the start that we wanted a 2015.
4. We finally completed the order from the factory. I said, "OK, we've settled on a number. This isn't going to be one of those deals where 20 minutes from now you surprise me with some extra hidden cost, is it? THIS is the final cost, right?" Them: "Oh, absolutely. That is IT. You can count on it." Twenty minutes later, they said it would be an additional $600 for "GPS activation". Me: "Do you remember 20 minutes ago when...?"
5. Let's talk trade-in. After the mechanics swooned about the condition of the car to us, the sales guy came back and said, "We'll give you $7K." My wife started collecting her things to leave. He ran off to talk to his manager (Really? It's 2014. We STILL play that game?). He then came back and offered $9,500. A 35% increase!
By that time, we said we were just done with them and we left. The sales guy left us a voice mail mail message. I gave him the courtesy of calling him back and I said, "We're not going to be buying a car from you." He said, "Yeah I figured that, after leaving four voice mails." He then hung up on me.
These guys are awful. They are caricatures of car salesmen. I believe they purposely try to keep you there for hours to wear you down so you'll get to a point where you will agree to anything. They also use two sales guys at a time who trade off wearing you down. If you still go there, after reading this, please be on the lookout for this, especially if you get Paul and Frank.
