| - The Herberger is a very modern, clean theater.
The seats are wide and the cushions are full. I didn't feel like I was squished with no place to relax my arms even though there is only one, shared arm rest on each side. Sitting through the show for a couple of hours was quite comfortable. There is no head rest, so little opportunity to doze off during a production. Not as luxurious as some modern cinemas with fancy lounge chairs, but quite good compared to other theaters in the area.
The Arizona Broadway Theater performed "A Christmas Carol" with a live orchestra in the pit of the stage. The set and costumes were intriguing, and the actors all performed their roles with gusto. I would welcome seeing this group perform at this location again. Although I had mixed feeling about the actors blocking the exits at the end of the show to collect donations. It is nice to see the actors and talk to them at the end of the show, but their collection of donations was tacky and they were somewhat pushy about it. If you really need more money, charge a higher ticket price or find additional ways to cut expenses, but please don't charge money for tickets AND collect donations.
There was an intermission during the show. The lobby offers a bar where drinks and snacks can be ordered. You can even preorder and pay before the show so that you don't have to wait in line and waste your 15 minute intermission. Unfortunately you can't bring food into the theater, so be prepared to consume your order before returning to your seat.
Parking is at the Arizona Center which is a block away. This can be a hardship for those who are handicap. The only benefit was being able to pay in advance for parking along with the purchase of your show ticket. When you pick up your show ticket from will call, you receive a paid parking ticket which you can feed into the ticket tollbooth upon exiting the garage.
There are a lot of restaurants between the parking garage and the Herberger Theater, so you can easily grab a meal before the show which is exactly what we plan to do the next time we go.
