| - I was going to give 1 star, but because of the installer, I didn't.
First, let me mention that I read the review from Charles F., the only reviewer at the time and it says, "U.S. Energy did the installation for us (out contractor commented on the excellent job). While we had a minor problem two of the very large windows, Ed contacted Milgard for us and they responded immediately." He goes on to say the Milgard tech resolved the problem. This concerns me as there shouldn't be an issue with new windows. I'd to know if this is new construction or existing, and how many windows were installed.
I'll move on to my review. We had a rep come out and give us a bid on 2 windows and 1 slider for our living room, to replace original Milgard windows on out home which were damaged from a bad rainstorm a couple of years ago. Our home was built in the early 2000's, so I asked wether and how much the style of the window frames have changed and she told us that the windows "would match exactly" the existing windows which was the main reason we chose Milgard.
Well, after receiving a call that the windows were received and we needed to set up installation, we were ready to go. The installers arrived and put the windows in. To my surprise, they did NOT match our existing windows at all! Fortunately, they are the only windows in the room and no close comparison can made, but they are clearly different.
Then the slider arrived and the problems were unstoppable. First off, the slider was bigger than the original door. The installers didn't compensate for that but cutting the wall to fit the new door. They just slammed it and jammed it into the smaller space creating a mess. The door bowed and was extremely heavy to open & close. Then the handle wasn't on properly and they told us that the handle we ordered doesn't work on that door. Well that was all a bunch of words, as a service rep from Milgard came out, as the owner of the company didn't want to deal with the issues at hand, and the service rep told us that the door is larger than our original and the wall needed to be cut to fit the larger door. The service rep also fixed the handle and insured us that it was the installers issue, not that the handle was incompatible.
I followed up with U.S. Energy and repeated exactly what the Milgard service rep said (who also sent an e-mail to U.S. Energy stating the above issues), and it tools weeks for them to have their installers come back out and fix the door.
When they finally came out, they fixed the door as instructed by cutting the opening to fit the larger door, however, they continued to make mistakes and a mess. After testing the slider, it worked, however, their job is never complete as they removed the lock on the frame and we had to go out and purchase another as we never want to deal with U.S. Energy again!
Overall assessment - don't use U.S. Energy to purchase your Milgard windows from as they do not install the product with care, concern, or neatly in any way.
