| - I would gladly give this store a higher review if they fixed 2 problems. The first is that they put $1.00 stickers on every single comic book they have. Did I mention that they are unremovable stickers and if you do try to remove them, the comic will be destroyed? Furthermore, all comics (aside from locked box items) are all one dollar, so there is no damn need to sticker them. Perhaps a sign saying all comics are a buck? That's make too much sense. I've been to about 20 HPB stores throughout my life and have never seen another store do this. In fact, the Mentor location treats their comics like collectibles. Whereas here in North Olmsted, they treat comics like they're worthless. Did anyone ever consider that the great majority of people who buy comics also collect them and don't want ugly stickers on their comics?
Problem 2: I noticed on my most recent visit how overpriced some stuff is. Let's take for example, Littlest Pet Shop 3 for the Nintendo DS. A game that is available new on eBay or Amazon for a few dollars at most. Well you'd think HPB would be offering a low demand shovelware title on an old handheld for a decent price... say $2.99, even $4.99. Sorry, wrong answer... try $19.99!!! Some of the things that I see in this store really outright piss me off. I really need to stop shopping here. I bought a very nice and desirable comic in mint shape and tried my absolute best to remove the sticker and fucked the comic up. Oh well, now there's one less Walking Dead 99 variant cover in the world.
Lastly, and basically another complaint is the fact that I have tried trading in books and media here several times and have always been lowballed no matter what I bring. One time I was offered a buck for over 200 items including movies, cd's and books. Then they go and resell it all for 10 to 20 times that price. So much for reasonable deals.
Lastly part 2: the clearance section here used to be a saving grace. Nowadays everything in it is 4 dollars. The days of 1 or 2 dollar books is practically a distant memory.
I'd be glad to up my rating if these things were ever addressed. The other Cleveland area locations are much nicer and intelligent. Also a 2 hour drive gets you around 4 or 5 more awesome locations in Columbus.
