| - Had a very good experience, from the ease of booking an appointment over the phone, check-in and the appointment itself. The salon is located in a strip mall past Chandler Blvd/Alma School, behind Si SeƱor. Check-in was easy breezy and I was able to show my Groupon voucher and fill out a brief contact form. I was taken back by my student stylist, Jing, within five minutes.
The atmosphere is what you would expect of a lab beauty school. A sea of close together, mirrored stations (to allow the instructors to flow about), shampoo stations and lots of looks of terror in the eyes of customers (I kid, I kid...). Jing was incredibly sweet and I was admittedly relieved when I realized she is close to graduating (thus, more experienced). This was my first time getting a color done at a beauty school but I shouldn't have been nervous since the teachers are consulted before choices are made for color mixtures and cuts.
I brought a photo of the look I was interested in and Jing worked meticulously to match it as closely as possible and when she wasn't sure with something, she always asked the instructor before taking action. I was concerned when she checked on the first foiled piece and it was incredibly light. The instructor said I did not need more time and got shampoo'd and ready to have my layers cut. My subtle golden highlights and haircut were perfect. It was hard to see the color under their lighting but once I got into my car, I knew I loved it. As others mentioned, it does take longer than typical salon (3.5 hours for my cut/partial highlight on chest length, thin hair), but this is a GOOD thing that they are taking their time to perfect their craft and not go Edward Scissorhands on your hair. :-) I was pleasantly surprised by the experience and will definitely be back again for hair and to try a facial.
