| - Unless you're in my inner circle...you wouldn't know that I am also a donut connoisseur. Hurts...hurt. So disappointing.
I have only visited twice, and more than a full month apart, and things were not improved at all. The first time was within two months after opening, so I knew just one visit was not worth a realistic review. There are ALWAYS kinks to work out in a new business. Even a chain.
The first visit was a late night jaunt to Middleton for a friend's birthday (my friend work's 2nd shift), and they wanted to stop by Hurts. The party of three was so excited!!!
Disappointment. Stopping by at midnight, there was still a line of customers. Okay...I get it. Let the excitement linger and gaze upon the tantalizing selections of donut glory. When I finally arrived at the counter, I picked a small 6-pack of donuts, actually an easy choice among the selection. This was where the experience became unleavened, and fell totally flat! I wanted a hot coffee, none left or in stock. What?!?! I didn't expect anything delicious, but I did expect coffee available with my donuts! Okay...a cold brew coffee? Again, none at all. My options were cold milk or water from the beverage case across the room. Whatever. I had water...water with my donuts. Ew.
My small, but starving group went upstairs to check the place out and nom away. I put on a "this is really fun" face for my pal's birthday, but we all began deflating as soon as we arrived upstairs. There were no staff to be found...a few young adults goofing off in one of the play activities, which FYI, the upstairs theme is an attempt to be an adult/kid co-mingling play space. It sucks. It's not very well kept up, there isn't equipment to even try playing at all of the stations. It was awful - and the birthday boy was clearly disappointed too.
The donuts were the final shining redemption. Whoops. This redemption tasted like stale, pure sugar...gross. A smores donut was moderately interesting, with a toasted marshmallow and pretzel, but the donut itself was stale. A Tang dusted, vanilla glazed donut was also stale, unbelievably sugary, sour mouthful. It just wasn't appetizing. The three of us looked at one another, disappointed but ate through about three donuts each as a gesture to make the birthday boy feel appreciated.
My second experience was equally abysmal. "Sides" or extra food and beverage items were STILL out of stock, but I did have hot coffee. It was nasty, and I took two sips and tossed it. Staff was more organized, but still not seeming fully alert (and I realize these are younger adults here...and I am really trying to give them a break, they were nice people, just not very organized).
I have no interest in giving this place a third try. As something less than a consolation, the business sign on the building is neat! Especially at night when lit, it turns shades of neon colors. Purple, pink, blue, green, orange, red.
