| - I was out shopping for cake decorating supplies when I came across Sweet House. I work in the baking and pastry field, but cake decorating is not my specialty, so I needed to purchase some small tools and equipment for designing my daughter's first birthday cake at home. Supporting a small, local business is much more appealing to me than making my purchases at Michaels and Joann, which carry primarily Wilton brand products.
At Sweet House, I found much more than Wilton. I saw fondants and colors from various professional lines. They even carry isomalt and colored isomalt tabs that are already cooked, so all the sugar artist has to do is melt them under a heat lamp and get to work on the final product. Sugar work can be very messy, so this product is convenient and keeps your pots and stovetop clean. I had just missed a free isomalt demo offered inside the store a day prior. If keeping your kitchen clean is always the priority, you can even order custom cakes and dessert catering from Sweet House.
Despite the various selections, they may not have every cake or candy accessory you are looking for inside this small shop, so I would recommend calling to check availability. I ended up purchasing a half sheet cake board and box here. I was pleased that I could buy a single cardboard here, as the big shops down the road sell these in a pack of six. Useful classes and free demos are offered, so signing up for the Sweet House email list through http://www.sweethouselv.com/Contact.html is worthwhile. Sidney Galpern of Simi Cakes & Confections in Melbourne, FL is set to return in October for another isomalt demo, so I'm looking forward to that! They were even involved with Cake Camp at Green Valley Ranch last week, an awesome event to learn from some of the best in the industry. I may have found a new hobby.
