| - Slowly going downhill. I've stayed at this property numerous times over the past 3 years. Originally it was a wonderful experience as the rooms, customer service and breakfast was great. All of that has slowly changed. On my past 2 visits, the customer service has just been okay, the room mediocre and in need of updating, and the breakfast subpar.
I used the mobile key to check in, which I love but at this location you have to go to the front desk to get a parking permit. I do like that this is the only downtown hotel that does not charge for parking so I am okay with that. The gentleman at the front desk was pleasant but did not offer me my goody bag that preferred members get so I had to request it. Typically this is not a big deal, but I was hungry and needed my snacks. When I got to my room, I struggled to get the door open because the carpet in the room was holding the door back. When I got inside, I walked into a freezer. It was so cold I could see dead people... I meant my breath. I could see my breath. I turned the heat on and it blew cool air. I called the front desk and heard someone pick up and immediately put me on hold. No words of assurance that I had called the front desk or that they would come back on the line before I developed frost bite. After about 5 minutes, the young man at the front desk answered as if I had called outside of the property. I told him my room number and that I needed heat. He said he would send maintenance up to check it out. As I hung up the smoke alarm went off. It certainly wasn't me since I had no heat to induce smoke.
After the alarm was disabled, I went to my room to wait for maintenance. He showed up promptly and fixed my heat.
Breakfast at any Hampton Inn is okay but the pre-sliced fruit is disgusting. It seems as if they freeze it, thaw it and serve it to guests. I don't get it anymore as I know that it will not be good. This particular morning, I noticed a couple of other guests scooping out the fruit, tasting it and then throwing it away. I pray that Hampton gets rid of their fruit before someone gets sick on this mess they call fruit.
Anyway, outside of all of that, this location is perfect for seeing the sights, walking along the water, or walking downtown. I would stay here again, if it is cheaper than the Homewood Suites which is right down the street.
