My system has been up for about 6 months. It works just as I expected....SO FAR....
Time will tell but as far as the workmanship and staff, I could not have asked for better. Yes, it is a long process and can take up to 4 months (or more). It is not all Solar City's fault. You need to understand Clark County and NV Energy have their fingers in the whole process. Solar City can't make a penny till that system is turned on! They want it up and running more than you...... they have skin in the game to a tune of about $20,000.
My panels sat for almost 45 days waiting for Clark County and NV Energy to "inspect" EACH step. As a retired maintenance manager I understand the process and therefore had the patience for the process to run its course.
Understand you will be leasing for 20 years, but as long as the sun shines you will be saving. NV Energy will be charging about 2.9% rate increase each year but the power my system produces and thus my lease payment will remain the same for 20 years.... no increases!. As an added bonus, you don't have to worry about the maintenance, they handle all of it. Woo Hoo!
Some have made statements on here about the system loosing efficiency over time.... well EVERY system will loose efficiency over time whether you lease or buy. But not enough to be greater than 2.9% rate increase over time. 2.9% just clicks over and over and over. The power of compounding, not just once but forever. With Solar City you can renew another 20 with all new equipment, if you buy then you will have to put out another $20,000.
On a side note, they forgot to paint the outside of the house and came out the following day when I called. I also ended up with a small seam crack in my ceiling drywall...... the week after I called they had a very good "craftsman" come out and do the repair..... perfect!
Would I do it again.YUP!
