  • I played Bear's Best 10/15/2014, a group of 10 with 1:30 start time, super twilight rate. All 3 groups finished just about dark. it was slow, but they had a tournament out on the course a couple groups in front of us, so it was slower than it needed to be. I travel to Las Vegas multiple times a year, specifically in October for golf. We started with lunch in the Bar, Prices were reasonable, food was good, service was attentive. Both the club house and restaurant are not big, but they both have enough space. The Prices in the club house are premium, but that is what you get with a Jack Nicklaus course and a course in this area. They did have clearance Items that made items more reasonable. Bear's Best is still coming out of overseeding, The couse was WELL watered, I would say somewhat over watered. The fairways and greens were thin in places,( I was not expecting a meticulously manicured course, but it was not as good as it should have been since the overseed). one thing that was not in need of anything was the Rough.... WOW. The rough ruined many a shot for myself and the others in my group. it is not unfair, it is bermuda which brings a lot of golfer's to their knees. some of the pace of play is due to the rough effect and the need to look for your ball if it finds itself off of the fairway. You would on numerous occasions need to be standing right on top of your ball to see it. The Layout of the course does not really have a flow to it, it seems forced at times, it really doesn't follow a great plan, but since it is a replica course, it is to be expected. I am a scratch player and played from the tips and it allows you to make a lot of different decisions for tee shots and approach shots. others in the group are higher handicaps and they felt that the course was challenging but not unfair. The first hole is definitely a tough hole to start on, very intimidating. Some of the views from the course are spectacular and some of the homes are redicuulous. Watch out for the bobcats, saw 2 while playing, do not appear to be afraid of humans. Also, if you do play, there is a stratosphere effect, everything runs faster towards the stratosphhere and Slower away from it. I would have liked the course to be pristine but my expectations were temptered due to the recent overseed but Bear's Best is one of the must plays in Las vegas and I will play again.
