Although I've lived in the general neighborhood for my entire life and I have driven by Urban Beans probably 1,000 times, it wasn't until last week that I finally ventured in to give it a try. I ended up going two days in a row.
Visit One: The decor is not really noteworthy. I'm not a furniture snob, I just know what I like. Urban Beans is fairly cluttered.
My first instinct was to go with the strawberry scone. It looked gorgeous. Since I hadn't had breakfast, however, I decided to try the urban french toast (or whatever they call it). It is a baked french toast and the description sounded great. The french toast itself? Terrible. It was pretty much like regular toast. Parts of it were totally dry and it had zero flavor. It was actually served with real maple syrup (normally a plus), but it this case, a true waste.
I ordered an iced toddy because I wanted something cool. It had a strange aftertaste.
Visit Two: Today I decided to try a blueberry peach scone. The flavor was OK but it was fairly dry. To drink, I ordered an iced Americano. This was an improvement over the toddy but still, not great coffee.
After giving it two tries, I really don't see a reason to go back to Urban Beans.
