| - Unlike WinCo (the other Chinese grocery store across the mall), there is no rotted meat smell here. I mean, it doesn't smell like roses, but it definitely doesn't smell like rot. That means I'm considerably more likely to buy fresh meat here (when it looks like it's a decent quality cut of meat). I got chicken leg quarters here on Sunday ($1.29/lb), and they were not bad. I asked for 3lbs, and the man who bagged my chicken gave me a little over 2lbs. I asked for another bag and got 3lbs. Why I'm taking two stars away is because of the way they handle their fresh meat. Most of it is in a glass counter, and you get one of the men at the back to get you your meat. They place it into a plastic bag, weigh and price it, then give it back to you. I know that at most Chinese supermarkets, some there might be some blood/raw meat juice or whatever that touches the bag, but I've never seen another store where they actually rest the plastic bag on the fresh meat that they're bagging before putting meat in. That means that the entire bottom of the bag of meat they give you has touched raw meat. That is exactly what they do here. This upsets me to no end because if I have cooked items or items I will not be cooking in my cart, they're going to come in contact with raw meat, and that's cross contamination. Not cool.
