| - This review is kinda of in two parts: the facility and the concert experience. Also keep in mind, this is based on a concert that was maybe the second or third event they hosted after only being open for about a week.
The facility is beautiful. It is in a great location, easy to get to, and easy to find parking. I also think this facility will help continue to revitalize downtown Phoenix. I think this venue will help continue to attract bands to Phoenix in addition to the Marquee in Tempe and the smaller but awesome Crescent Ballroom. I can't complain at all at any facility that helps bring back downtown and brings great bands to town like they did for Lord Huron and the Wild Reeds. The building is spacious with a great patio for when its not summer and yes very large and clean bathrooms which is very important for a concert. I also had a great place to watch the concert, I was upfront to the left of the stage and had a terrific view of Lord Huron and the Wild Reeds. I think with a few fixes this will really be a wonderful place to see a show.
Now my issues: 1) you charge me 10$ for a tiny beer. That was a bit excessive. I know that at a ballgame it would probably be about the same, but I felt that was too much like Vegas Strip prices for a downtown Phoenix show. That was a bit much.
But my real issue was with the sound. The music sounded great but the vocals were way off. For many of the songs by Lord Huron I could not hear they vocals. Music was great, but the vocals were hardly there. At the beginning of the show, the vocals were so off, Lord Huron actually left the stage and came back a few minutes later, I have been going to concerts for years and have never seen this happen. Again, I understand the venue is brand new. Also, the way the sound is sound of the crowd seems amplified to the point it was louder than the lyrics. The sound of the crowd talking was just way way kicked up and was very distracting. But most importantly the vocals volume was way off and made many of the songs difficult to hear the lyrics.
I think this place will eventually be great, I just hope they can work some of the kinks out.
