Okay so I've never had to use an emergency vet before...I consider myself lucky! I have 3 dogs ALL of which are rescues!on Monday someone left the gate open and they all got out...as a responsible owner I take full responsibility for that...however as a driver and human if I were to hit a dog I'd have notified the owner (they have tags with my number) Especially considering my dog came ALL THE WAY HOME AFTER BEING HIT (you could have just followed him)...none the less once I found him... I'm assuming minutes after he was hit I just googled "emergency vets near me" and this was the first thing that popped up! It was local and I flew the 8mils because he was in so much pain! Have you ever seen a dog cry? I hadn't either but my baby was crying real tears that were rolling down his face hitting and the floor! It was SO sad! We walked in... there was NO ONE in the waiting room, and the receptionist looked genuinely concerned. They took his right back to a room where we waited an hour before nurse came back and offered to take him so they could give him pain meds before she took him she told me how much it would be and made me sign that I was going to pay that amount - plus the doctor Fee which I would... because he was in so much pain I just wanted him to be comfortable let me remind you that we got there at 8 p.m. no one took him until 9 p.m. I didn't see the doctor until 12 and I didn't leave until almost 5 a.m.! But back to the pain med part...so they took him to the back and I was a little confused why it was taking so long (as I waited I read other yelp reviews...so I assumed two things it was gonna be a long wait AND expensive !)... A tec came by and said there are two emergencies before u and then the dr will be right back this was maybe at 10 then a different tec said the same at 11 except she asked what my dogs name was..so I'm thinking she just opened the wrong door... So aroind 12 the Dr. came in and said they would need xrays....DUH he was hit my a car...lol but I said okay and he left...the Tec came back and explained it would be 250 for 5 film.....I asked what does the 110 office visit cover she said just the doctors exam but he can't fully examine without xrays....so I said ok...I honesty didn't know if this was an expensive amount or not but I just divided 250 by 5 and said okay that's not bad?! (Right 50 per image and they need at least five to fully see the problem?! At this time I also called off cuz I knew I'd be here a while...lol)
So now we wait and wait and wait...at some point they bring in a basket of goodies which my daughter was excited about and it was a nice touch I'm a sucker for snacks... So around 2am the Dr comes and explains that his hip was out of place...blah blah blah...how MUCH is all I wanted to know...and he had a quote which was over $1200....WHAT the dog was free-ninety-nine!!LOL but my daughter was sitting there tearing up as I asked question after question ended with "should i just put him down" where she lost it! In my defence the dr was basically saying that his hip may never function properly and he could be in this much pain again IF the hip... AFTER being "fixed" popped out again...so I'd have to pay for another surgery...and he'd be in excruciating pain again (potentially) but in her reaction to this question my only option was bring him home...I explained to the Dr that this was a lot of money and he said he would do what he could to TRY to cut the cost wear he could and I signed the dotted line...knowing that this invoice was in black and white and I could end up paying the price quoted... At 4 am the Dr came and told me the surgery was VERY difficult but he did get his hip back in place (which was a good thing according to the Dr the easier it is to pop back inplace the easier it is to pop out) I was so happy with that news...I thanked him and he left the Tec came back with all of his meds and the bill....*dramatic drum roll please*
300 LESS then what was quoted YAY! Now let me explain he did not provide free service he just didn't perform anything that wasn't 100% necessary like cleaning the wounds he explained wound care to me and he also gave us a soft cone so he Mighty couldn't lick his wounds causing infection! And that was nice. All in all it place was nice and clean they seems to really care about the animals...the wait was LONG but as far as the price I honestly don't know I have nothing to compare it to... But emergency room visits as a human are hecka expensive so I'm not really surprised...now if I didn't have the money or only a portion and I'd have to rob Peter to pay Paul to get it then I'd understand...but accidents happen and I'm just happy they were able to help and my littliest man got to come home!
