I love this historic 101 year old hotel. I have not stayed here since 1999, but our New Year's Eve stay was very nice. Mellon Square parking garage is right across the street. The Lobby is opulent & fantastic, especially at Christmas time with the large tree & gingerbread house with train. Check in was quick & early at 1:30pm. I was disappointed that High Tea was sold out, which is a unique experience. However, I found that a Wigle Whiskey Bar & tasting room is attached and spent a nice hour sipping whisky & enjoying a unique whisky cocktail. They also have all their locally distilled bottles for purchase.
The room was large & had a view from the 12th floor. TV had a lot of channels & their was a fridge for our champagne. The beds were very comfortable, and the blankets soft & warm given it was in the single digits with a wind chill below zero. Lots of pillows were provided. The shower my husband raved was the best he ever had, with a rainforest shower head. Towels were large & soft. The bathroom is small because as mentioned before, this is a 101 year old hotel!
The William Penn has a Speakeasy Bar downstairs which transports you back to the 1920's. There is a small lobby bar & a larger pub down the hall as well. There is also a Starbucks & a restaurant. Elevators were quick.
If you enjoy the beauty & splendor of historic hotels the William Penn is for you! If you like spiffy, modern hotels, this is NOT for you. Hotel history with photos & relics are on floor beneath the lobby as well. I do want to return for High Tea.
