| - I hadn't been here in 15 years, back when it was owned by Paramount. It's pretty much as I remembered, with some obvious changes. New food spots and stands, some of the roller coasters received a paint job and a name change, and the prices went way up. Thankfully, I bank at SECU, so they sell discounted park tickets for $40. You can purchase tickets for $35 after 4pm at the park gate, which isn't too bad. Plus, you won't be in the heat all day. I believe the park closes at 10pm, so 6hrs isn't bad. Parking is $20. You're not allowed to bring in outside food or drink, they will check your bags.
Like all amusement parks, food prices are ridiculously high for below mediocre quality. My chicken tinder and fries came up to $12.99 before tax. They did offer complimentary cups of water to the customers at all refill stations. Carowinds sell color codes water bottles that can be refilled. The green is free refills the day of purchase and $1 per refill anytime after that for the season. The Orange is a season pass free refills for $25. Better off getting the green bottle unless you plan on visiting here more than twice during the year. I chose to get the green bottle and also the large Kona Ice cup, which get refills for $3.59.
Now, for the rides! The rides are amazing! Well, most of them. Some of them gave me headaches from the sudden turns like After Burn. My favorite is Nighthawk. It's a rollercoaster that you get to enjoy lying down, upside down. The Fury was fun, but I don't handle drops like that well. Although not as bad as I thought, it was more than I could handle, lol. The rest of my crew enjoyed it so much they got on it a total of 3 times. I didn't bother with half the rides because the lines were ridiculous for this 90+ degree heat.
I spent the majority of my time at the water park. Locker rental was $20 for a small one, so I just dealt with my bag rather than fork out the cash. Luckily, a friend of mine just wanted to chill in the shade, so she watched our stuff while we swam and enjoyed the body soup that was the wave pool. I spent most of my time here because half the slides were closed, therefore making what was available, having annoying long lines.
Overall, I had fun. The some staff were friendly, others was just waiting for the moment they can clock out and you can tell by the IDGAF attitude, like the one who rang up my chicken tenders. People were getting soda in the water cups and she didn't even bother to stop them. The park and restrooms were, surprisingly, very clean. I mean no tissue on the floors, water all over the counter, toilet paper and hand soap was stocked. Also, there is an auditorium with live performances. Show times are 1:30, 3:30, 5 & 7pm. My brother and his friends went in to take a nap, but the show caught their attention and they seemed to really enjoy themselves. I will be going back, but experience wise, it's like most amusement parks I've been to.
