The main selling point of Akahana is the every day BOGO sushi roll selection. Mind you, the sushi rolls they've come up with are not especially creative and I find that far too many of them have fillers like cream cheese that I'm just not looking for. (If I wanted shmear on my salmon, I'd have a bagel.) But it does have some redeeming qualities. The menu is very very long but you can pretty much skip the whole middle section because, although they list many Vietnamese options, these are not their forte. You'd do better to go down the street to one of the many Pho restaurants in Plaza or Eastland.
There are a few of the sushi rolls which I do like a lot, but I find it difficult to find multiple I really want each time. The seaweed salad is delicious, and the in-restaurant serving is generous, but the take-out serving (although the same exact price) always leaves me wishing I hadn't paid for it.
I'd say the most economical thing to order at Akahana is by far the soup. They're very reasonably priced (I love the egg drop and my husband always goes for the wonton) and they come in HUGE bowls, perfect for warming you up on a chilly day.
Dogs are allowed on the patio outside as long as they are on leash and behave themselves.
