  • My favourite dive bar in the city! It's really not that much of a dive since the bathrooms are decent and it's clean, but it does have a bit of an "old dog" smell and the carpet and furniture are probably older than television. Like many people commenting here, I started coming here after class when I was doing my masters part-time at Ryerson, and I still meet up with friends here fairly often. I will state up front that I wouldn't recommend eating here, even though it looks like their menu may have improved in recent years. My previous attempts to eat here are the stuff of nightmares. The upstairs "library" is where you want to go. As the name suggests, the walls are lined with books (and the occasional piece of vintage pornography). They also have an awesome foosball table and a pool table. The staff are friendly and the beer list has grown over the years. What you should order is Quart bottles of beer! They're only available for a few domestic Molson varieties, and I usually get Export. There's something awesome about having a table full of massive bottles of beer! I've never been to another pub in Toronto that has these. The library upstairs is mostly current and former Ryerson students, and the downstairs seems to be where the heavier drinkers go. The library is super laid-back and a great place to sit around chatting with your friends. The lower part isn't terrible by any means, but it doesn't have the same charm. There's also a patio upstairs that (sort-of) overlooks Dundas Square. The patio furniture is awful, but it's not a bad spot to drink outdoors. It's also hard to beat the location of this pub; it's just steps from Dundas Square and the subway. If you want to go to a divey bar with your friends, you really can't go wrong with the Imperial!
