Walked in after work to open basic checking account with a money order from WalMart for $100. Female banker treated me like trash from the moment we met. Pushed using prepaid deposit card rather than checking account because, "I'm sure YOU don't need a checking account." !!!!!
When I quickly declined she said, "Do you even know what it is?" She proceeded to push it again. I asked for the account choices collateral to make my decision. She refused and instead continued with pointedly personal and intrusive questions such as "How are you planning to use this account?" "Why did you ask if there were branches in California?" "Do you work?" "How much will you be depositing each month?"
She walked away with my ID and when she returned she said she had asked her manager and her manager agreed they would only accept cash "FROM YOU (me)." I was stunned. I don't mind a hold on a money order because I understand there are some issues with fraud but refusing a money order - an instrument of currency?
I went outside and called Chase Customer Service. Spoke with a polite young man who expressed surprise that they refused the money order to open the account and said he had never heard of that. He also said they should have accepted it. So, then I asked, "What happens now? Will someone be calling the branch?" HIS ANSWER??
"Well, it is at their discretion. I don't know what they saw in you that made them say that."
Unbelievable! I opened with Silver State Credit Union and they are awesome! Avoid this bigoted bank.
