| - Dear Mario,
Being a retired chef and visiting LV on business with the family and being Italian, I couldn't resist visiting The Venetian and visiting Mario's restaurant.
Really cool spot, Mario. We requested to be seated in the piazza area, but were told it was full, but would try to get a table out there. well, after 10 minutes, we were told it couldn't be done. Big surprise. We then were escorted to the back dining room area . Nice room with wine bottle decor and a very smart elegant atmosphere. Loved the taste of the room. That was great, Mario.
I don't know how to tell you this, Mario, but I'll try stating my overall experience with all the respect and admiration I have for you.
We ordered the penne dishes and the Taliatelli dish for my daughter and had the cheese appetizers. Pasta was prepared adequately and tasted great. No problem, except portions were extremely small compared to the other Italian restaurants we've visited in LV. So small in fact that we all stopped at another restaurant within an hour because we were all hungry still. Unheard of from an Italian restaurant where the food at the table is abundant. Ok, so you have ambiance.
Other issues.
When we were seated in the dining room, there was already a full table of 6 people having dinner and were sometimes too loud for the room. No biggie.
Then after a half hour or so, servers were scrambling to put 4-5 tables together for about 20 people who had shown up. In this small room? Are you kidding? Since this room was small these people were very loud and disturbing to everyone. So much so, I couldn't hear the server explaining the desserts on the menu. It was so disturbing, we chose to leave the second we were finished with the entree.
We were sorry we didn't do 'Trattoria Reggiano' on the way in. The food looked out of this world and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
In short, nice place, but needs some work on the portions, selections and stuffing about 40 noisy people into a small room. Server should have moved us out before. And Mario, no Gnocchi or Cavatelli or Lasagna on the menu?? Whaa??
Very disappointed with our initial visit and will probably not visit your restaurants.
Best wishes,
Sincerely, Sal Carone
