  • Full disclosure... I used to work at this movie theater when I was in high school (summers) and had to walk up hill in Charlotte snow flurries. So I am pretty familiar with this theater and in fact, I confess to avoiding it due to my history with it. I used to have bad dreams about purple walls and neon lights.... of trying to "upsell" customers and failing badly. The failing part wasn't the dream... but I digress. Recently I caught a movie here and the entire theater has been renovated to have assigned seating and electronically controlled recliners. My friends told me they were doing it "theater-by-theater" so it may have taken a while and there was a lot of construction plastic everywhere. On my last visit, it still had the "new carpet" smell and some striking changes (off the bat that I noticed): The box office that used to have 10 or so windows that would be manned have now been replaced by kiosks. I think you can still come inside and around to the customer service desk if you don't want to deal with a robot, but that's definitely a new thing. I don' t know how they will deal with weekend lines... they probably put out rope stands to do a bit of crowd control. After purchasing your ticket you proceed into the theater, past the ticket taker, and the layout is basically the same, except they've added a bar to the right hand side where the cafe used to be (yes... there was a cafe there that served coffee and ice cream/dessert things). The concession stand has remained a new, but now there are, I'm going to call them, butter jetties.... that extend out from the main columns that actually funnel you into the concession stand, but also a good place to set your popcorn down, grab napkins, and also get everything in hand for your journey to your numbered theater. Self serve soda stations flank the concession stand and then the arcade is still on the left... however it's not a room anymore... it's just an open area with games along the walls (probably better for parents to spy their kids from the bar). Pretty much everything has been done... the carpets I used to sweep popcorn off of are brand spanking new.... the walls are no longer purple and there's a warmth to the place with the wood/laminate flooring and gray walls. I still don't know what the difference between RPX and IMAX is, but one day I will find out since I'll be back and not try to avoid this "new" theater any longer.
