| - The phrase lipstick on a pig feels appropriate here. Sure this airport is nice and clean (most of it at least, especially if you don't fly Delta here and have to go to some gates that most people never have to experience). But it's still just cosmetic changes.
Everything is ridiculously (and frustratingly) slow here. If you enjoy waiting for more than an hour for luggage to come to the claim area... An hour after you leisurely get off the plane, use the washroom, proceed through countless hallways, etc to get to the baggage claim area. If you enjoy waiting and having noone seemingly aware (or care) that the baggage hasn't gotten to the claim area, then this is your favorite airport for that experience. Never mind the long lines at ticketing when you check in... Or just want to drop off luggage. Advice: do not check luggage when flying in or out of Pearson...
There's never enough seats for everyone at the gate. The gates are also poorly designed. The minute boarding is announced, the herd of people gets confused and everyone gets in line without knowing if it's their turn or not... This is because the signs don't say what zones are boarding. I hope they'll try to design the gates so that people file into the correct zones (Maui, for example, does a great job of this). The problem with not enough seats and the poor boarding process is that there's always a large number of people in the walkway to get to the different gates. If you're late, Pearson is not going to be an easy place to run to the gate because you'll have to run around a lot of folks.
The fewer seats seem to me like they're so that restaurant style seatings can be added near/at the gates. Seems nice, but in practice, I'm not sure it's really that wise. The food is overpriced, average, and slow.
It'd be so much better if the space was better designed (layout wise) in addition to looking fancy. But as currently, it looks nice, but there's a lot of issues with it.
