| - The Dog Salon is FANTASTIC. We have been taking our golden retriever, Tucker, there (just look at my profile picture) for years now, ever since he was a puppy. He is now 4 years old.
We were initially hesitant to even try a grooming salon because "Why not just wash him in the tub?". Ha. That idea didn't last very long. Tucker is 90 pounds, and needs to be bathed every 2 - 3 weeks (3 weeks maximum) because he tends to get itchy. The Dog Salon was a perfect solution.
Their self-serve station is very user-friendly. Each stall is spacious, has plenty of shampoos to choose from, and has small towels. (They will provide you with a large towel if you ask). The cost is normally $15, but is reduced to $12 on Sundays. Score!
I also recommend the mini groom. For Tucker, the cost is $50, plus $5 because we ask for oatmeal shampoo. Tucker gets this every 2 - 3 months. It is well worth the cost. They clip his nails, give him a trim, and he always looks so fluffy and clean afterwards. They even put a bandana on him each time, which is a cool add - on.
My one complaint is that the first time we ever dropped him off here (honestly back in 2013), the employee (a young male) was pretty unfriendly and kind of cold. He even seemed shocked that we were back 2 weeks later and asked if we had liked the grooming. I am convinced he is one of the reasons why Tucker really dislikes baths. First impressions mean a lot to dogs! I'm sure he wasn't that gentle with Tucker during the grooming. I haven't seen this employee in years, so I believe he doesn't work there anymore.
Another thing to note - Tucker is terrified of blow dryers. I like that the blow-dryers at the self-serve stations have a switch where you can adjust the pressure. Sometimes we put it on the lowest setting so he won't thrash around as much in the stall. This is a definite plus!
Overall, this place is great and provides admirable customer service. They even let us know their concerns after a mini groom that Tucker could have an ear infection (turns out, they were right). We will keep coming back!
