Ditto to all those who gave the WSM a good review. Some tips you might find helpful, though:
- Take a lap before you start buying. Produce that looks good in one place might look better (or be cheaper) somewhere else.
- If you can, choose your own produce. The stuff "behind the scenes" is often not as good (or as fresh) as the stuff out for display.
- Go in with a list. Too often, I've loaded up on produce ("Oh yeah! That humongous watermelon is super cheap! Get that!") not eaten it, and had it go bad. You're not saving money if your veggies spoil.
- Go to the market between 1:30 and 2:30. The place is less crowded and you have a better chance of being able to pick out your own produce. Also, and maybe this is just crazy talk, but sometimes I get the feeling that the produce is fresher later in the afternoon than in the morning.
- Do your research. Other reviewers have pointed out that produce is sometimes cheaper at the grocery. They're not wrong. You will always get *something* at the WSM for cheap, but don't assume all of it is.
