Desert Realty Thank you, Brent, for taking the time to review Desert Realty here on Facebook and Yelp. Reviews like yours give us the opportunity to look at our procedures and see where we might need to improve, as well as the chance to respond. First and foremost, all of our prospective residents are required to look at a house before they even apply to rent. If the house you leased and resided in was so "nasty," why did you put down a deposit and move in? We understand your frustrations with an older property, but since you received a full deposit refund from the owner of the house - and the Better Business Bureau found in our favor and closed your case - we feel the issue is resolved
We notified you on multiple occasions and gave you ample time and opportunity to rectify the habitability and "nasty" state of move-in. We have countless photos and pages of documentation to corroborate all that I have said in my review. If need, I will gladly post them to Facebook, Yelp and Google. Just say the word. We can let the court of public opinion decide. We made multiple phone calls to Desert Realty to rectify all and any issues - some to resolution and many others not. The BBB most definitely DID NOT find in your favor. The case was closed once we received our justified full refund of our security deposit and prior to our initiation of small claims court if not resolved to our satisfaction. We left the rental in a much better state than when we received it. Even your own Desert Reality representatives that came to the rental and repair crews stated how well we had taken care of the property, that it never looked so good, and how clean it was. It is an older rental but that is no excuse and the renter should not be stuck with the cost of upkeep/repair through security deposit. It is the homeowners responsibility to keep up with upkeep/repair. While you are looking at your procedures and areas to improve, my suggestion is to NOT let the homeowner perform the final walk-through/inspection and be allowed to itemize the cost/deductions against the security deposit. That is bad practice and we were charged for multiple items that were unjustified. We take care of our things, whether they are ours or not, and that includes properties we rent. For example, justifiably so we replaced at our own expense the broken back door glass window.
