Hotel le St-James was AMAZING.
I kept going back and forth between the Ritz and Hotel le St-James, and I'm so glad we picked this hotel. I wanted to be in the heart of things and I have to say that the hotel's location is perfect. You can easily walk everyone in old town, but it is walkable to downtown and basically anywhere if you like walking (we walked back from St. Viater bagel after walking up Mount Royal and stopping downtown). It's also on a quieter street, so you don't have to worry about any loud noises at night.
We were upgraded to a suite - which was huge and very comfortable. It had a lovely sitting room and a large bedroom, 2 walk-in closets and a giant bathroom. We had some issues in the bathroom with water leaking out of the shower and they promptly fixed the issue on day 1.
The hotel was very quiet - we hardly saw other guests and didn't hear anything at night even though the hotel was booked.
The staff couldn't have been friendlier and helped us with a variety of requests (holding luggage, copious directions, etc) and knew us by room/name throughout our stay.
The hotel is lovely, with beautiful furniture everywhere...it doesn't look like a hotel - more like an old house. It is an old bank, and has tons of character (and insanely high ceilings). Our windows were very high up, so you couldn't really look out onto the street, but they let in a ton of natural light.
The library downstairs is comfortable to sit and relax and the restaurant is tasty and offers a relaxing atmosphere with a bar if you're so inclined.
I 100% would stay here again - it was wonderful and fit our needs perfectly for a lovely long weekend. Definitely worth every penny!
