This is a Rabelasian (sp) take on Cirque du Soleil. The sets are absolutely transcendent, and the performers should be paid at the level of Lebron James. Seriously. No safety nets or anything, and probably like .00001% average body fat.
Why not 5 stars? It has to do with the 'offensive' humor: jokes about ethnic and sexual minorities, women, and so forth. As a big fan of "roast humor," I get how context is everything, and I get how intent matters, too. If everyone enters knowing what to expect and we ultimately agree it's just in good fun, is this kind of humor so bad? Or does it in fact just entrench vile societal thoughts that really ought to be in the 'dustbin of history'? I'm still not sure, but parts of the humor made me very uncomfortable as I wrestled with this question. I feel the same every time I watch Mel Brooks's classic BLAZING SADDLES
This all aside, the performances are jawdropping. I can't even decide my favorite. WOW!
