I have been a regular customer of this UPS store for over a year. There is woman that works there, named Jan, who has always rubbed me the wrong way. Her tone and the things she says are condescending and belittling. I have noticed this almost every time I am in there, not only towards me but other customers as well. I have always responded back in a kind manner thinking maybe she was just having a bad day or was unhappy. A couple of weeks ago I mailed a package to a friend and paid $37. When my friend received the package he informed me that the shipping label said it only cost $20. I returned to the store with my receipt to ask the young man assisting me why I had been overcharged. She chimed in and explained to me in a condescending tone that it was because they are a retail store and upcharge everything. She told me that this is common sense knowledge and I should know this. Apparently I should've known that they are legally able to charge me almost double for a package. WHAT?! Regardless of whether or not she thought this was common knowledge, that was not the appropriate response, especially to a paying customer. I suggested that perhaps they should let their customers know in some way that they are being upcharged and how much for transparency purposes (on the receipt, for example). She replied, "I will make sure I tell YOU each time YOU come in to the store." Wow... At this point she had implied twice that I am stupid. I couldn't believe that someone that is in customer service is SO BAD at customer service. She sauntered to the back and I could hear her talking about me to someone. I asked the young man for the owner's name and number and called as soon as I left the building. Of course the owner is her husband. I truly hope she changes her ways because I would hate for other customers to feel as unsettled as I did in dealing with this woman. I will absolutely never give this store my business again and will make sure my friends and family know about my terrible experience.
