Just to differentiate...this review is for the actual plantation. The review of the park is under Latta Plantation Park.
The Latta Plantation is a piece of preserved history in Mecklenburg County (yeah, imagine that!). It was once a working plantation with livestock, slaves and everything.
Most people think of plantations featuring grand houses but if you look at this house it really isn't all the grand compared to the images we are used to seeing for plantations. There are basically 5 rooms for the house - a living area, a dining area, a kitchen, and 2 bedrooms upstairs. There is refurbished period furniture in the house.
The guided tour of the house was interesting. The guide explained what the family would use a room for and how daily life was back in the day.
On the rest of the plantation property includes recreations of slave quarters, kitchen and various other buildings. You may see live animals including pigs, a bull, a mule, chickens, and bees.
This is really worth the few dollars for the tour to see the area preserve history.
