| - I do not recommend this apartment. I have lived here for about a year. While the new appliances and accessories are very nice, there is no community feel to the building, and the "niceness" is just surface-deep.
PROS:
New appliances.
Secure building.
Close to the hospital - nice commute for hospital employees/med students. Also close to bus stop (bus stop is literally right outside, with busses passing frequently.)
Neighbor noise is minimal (I rarely hear my upstairs or next door neighbors.)
Fitness area - 2 treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bike.
CONS:
RULES. (I understand that rules help the community stay nice, but the rules are a bit extreme - no taking bikes through front door. no throwing trash out or treadmill use after 10 pm? This may be for noise reasons, which I do understand.) It feels like new rules just pop up every month or so, with signs plastered all over the building.
MAIL/PACKAGE DELIVERY. The packages are all left in the front area in an unsecure area. Not a huge deal, but if you are expecting a package, you have to look through the pile of all the packages (sometimes up to 30) to search for yours. I think the residents are all honest folks, but the packages lying out could be easily taken by someone passing through the building.
PRICE. It is expensive to live here. (Even more expensive if you want parking.) My rent will be increasing by nearly $100 per month next year. That is ridiculous, and the apartment is not worth the cost. I had to renew my lease after living here only 2 months. Parking underground (while nice and convenient) costs an extra $150 a month.
BUILDING/BUSINESSES. I was told that there would be businesses on the first level of the building. A year later, there are still 4 empty commercial spaces. (I understand that this is not the apartment management's fault). Residents still do not have access to the "rooftop terrace" that was advertised.
OFFICE PERSONNEL. Two of the women in the office are extremely personable, nice, friendly, and helpful. However, there is one who is very cranky, rude, and condescending when she comes into my apartment. Each time I have to deal with her, she is inconsiderate. I'm sure she has a stressful job dealing with so many people, but many people work with the public daily and manage not to take their anger out on others.
LOCATION (NOISE) - My balcony sits directly over Campus Drive/University Ave. I would love to sit out on the balcony and eat dinner in the warm weather, but the fast traffic on University Avenue is just not that relaxing. The walls and balcony glass door are thick, but I still hear the traffic, and can see it passing from my kitchen. Also, the proximity of the hospital (while potentially a great thing) makes it that ambulances and the Medivac Helicopter are frequently passing.
RESIDENTS - When I smile and say hello at other residents when passing in the hallway or elevator, most either ignore me, or look surprised that a neighbor would be greeting them. Not sure why this is...
Overall, I would not recommend this apartment. There are plenty of nearby options that will be less expensive and perfectly fine, less pretentious places to live.
